State girls basketball: Konawaena, Punahou in final

Jazzmin Awa-Williams scored 27 points and made nine free throws in the game's final 1:48 as second-seeded Konawaena defeated third-seeded 'Iolani, 50-41, tonight in the semifinals of the Hawaiian Airlines girls state basketball Division I championship at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Wildcats (16-0) advance to tomorrow's championship game against Punahou, a 47-41 winner over Honoka'a.

The Buffanblu (12-5) have won the last two state titles, while the Wildcats won it in 2004.

Janelle Nomura scored 18 points and Chelsea Deptula added 16 to lead Punahou.

Keisha Kanekoa scored 32 points to lead the Dragons (14-4).

'Iolani (12-3) was led by Jamie Smith's 28 points and 13 rebounds. The Raiders face the Dragons in the third-place game.
