Warning signs up after sewage spills into Palolo Stream

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Health has posted a contaminated water warning for Palolo Stream near the Kalua Street bridge following a sewage spill yesterday.

City Environmental Services notified the Clean Water Branch of a sewage discharge entering Palolo Stream from a storm drain at 1962 9th Ave. City crews noticed sewage exfiltration from the backyard of a 10th Avenue residence while conducting dye testing of an upstream wastewater system. Flow was estimated at 1/2 gallon per hour.

Signs have been posted while crews located the cause of the leak.

The public is advised to stay out of Palolo Stream from Kiwila Street Bridge to Koali Road Bridge.
