A 36-year-old Wai'anae man with five criminal convictions is facing charges of possessing an unregistered firearm following his arrest this morning at a beach park in West O'ahu.

A patrol officer investigating sounds of an argument at the park at 1:30 a.m. discovered the man standing near a parked sports utility vehicle clutching a plastic bag.

As the officer approached, the man threw the bag into the back seat of the SUV and walked to the back of the vehicle with his hands raised, police said.

The man was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and an unregistered gun.

The man also is wanted on a $1,6000 warrant.
