The remnants of Fresh Del Monte Produce (Hawaii) Inc.'s shuttered Kunia pineapple operations and the former Kilgo's store on Sand Island Access Road are being auctioned off.

Del Monte, which abruptly closed its operations in November and fired 551 workers, is auctioning off farm and office equipment from its 104-year-old pineapple business here. Up for bid are sprayer, pickup and flatbed trucks, trailers, forklifts, harvesters, plows, irrigation items, machine shop equipment and office items.

The equipment is available for viewing starting at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, through May 31 at 92-1170 Kunia Road. Bids will be accepted on site and can be mailed or faxed to the company. The auction will end June 1, with property going to the highest bidder.

Del Monte shut down two years ahead of schedule, saying Kunia production had been lower than expected and that worldwide supply and prices prompted closing of the operation. The Hawai'i operation was a unit of Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc., a Coral Gables, Fla., company whose business is spread across the globe.

Kilgo's recently closed after more than 60 years in business. The remaining items in the hardware store are being liquidated in a sale that began yesterday by McClain Auctions. Items are being sold at 50 percent or more off marked prices.

The Kilgo's sale will end Saturday. An auction of the retailer's remaining inventory, furniture and fixtures is planned for May 26 at 10 a.m.

Correction: Equipment being auctioned by Fresh Del Monte Produce (Hawai'i) Inc.'s shuttered Kunia pineapple operation will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, through May 31. A previous version of this story contained an incorrect date for viewing.
