KAPA'A
Sprucing up New Town field

Advertiser Staff

A group of volunteers calling themselves Na Ha 'Ewalu is overseeing development of a sports field at Kapa'a New Town Park, to ensure it is ready for Kapa'a High School's June 1 graduation ceremonies.

Portable bleachers went up last month, and an 8-foot perimeter fence was started last week. A scoreboard and permanent bleachers will be installed after the graduation.

The park will have seating for 2,500 people — roughly the same as the county's Hanapepe Stadium.

It is designed to provide east Kaua'i athletic teams with a home field on which to play, said county parks administrator Mel Nishihara.
