'Endangered Species Day' at Lyon Aboretum

Advertiser Staff

The Lyon Aboretum is holding several events in honor of today's "Endangered Species Day," a national celebration of America's commitment to protecting and recovering endangered species.

  • "Our Kuleana" Endangered Species Poster Contest. The contest provides K-12 students an opportunity to convey their thoughts about protecting endangered Hawaiian plants. Starting today, posters will be displayed at the Lyon Arboretum.

  • Guided Tours of the Lyon Arboretum's gardens, featuring many of the endangered plants in the Arboretum's collections, start at 10 a.m.

  • Lyon Arboretum Micropropagation Lab Tour and Open House starts at 9 a.m.

  • Lyon Arboretum/CCRT Seed Storage Lab Tour and Open House is also today.

There are more endangered species per square mile in Hawai'i than any other place on the planet.
