State pulls insurance agent's license for alleged theft

Advertiser Staff

The state has revoked the insurance license of Amy Pohaiokalani Fernandez and fined her $20,000 for allegedly stealing $11,737 of premium money from two policy holders.

Fernandez, who also goes by the name Amy Pohaiokalani Waikiki and Pohai Waikiki, had worked for Majestic Insurance Agency on Maui, which reported her actions to the state.

The state Insurance Division said Majestic worked with the policyholders, getting insurance for one, and returning money to the other. It also is assisting the state as it looks into other policies Fernandez sold.

"The state of Hawaii will not tolerate licensees who abuse their privilege and take advantage of people," said state Insurance Commissioner J.P. Schmidt in a news release.
