Advertiser Staff

A Lawa'i residence was engulfed by flames early this morning. Fire officials estimate damage to the home and its contents to be $200,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters said the blaze started in a bedroom on the upper level of the duplex at about 5 a.m. and was under control at 5:30 a.m.

There were two people in the two-bedroom wooden home who escaped unharmed. No one was in a studio apartment on the bottom level of the duplex.

Ten firefighters and rescue specialists from the Kalaheo, Koloa and Lihu'e stations and the on-duty battalion chief responded to the call.
