Jail time for bleach fishing

Four Kaua'i men were sentenced yesterday for using bleach to harvest fish June 4, 2006, off Ni'ihau.

The four on March 8 had pleaded guilty to cruelty to animals.

Judge Kathleen Watanabe sentenced David Carvalho, 43, Aaron Hoff, 33, and Gavin Sadomiano, 28, all of Lawa'i, and William Wong, 55, of Wainiha,

Carvalho was sentenced to 90 days in jail and a $2,000 fine; Hoff to 30 days in jail and a $2,000 fine; Wong to 60 days in jail and a $2,000 fine; and Sadomiano to time served and 150 hours of community service. All were also placed on probation for one year.

Their fishing boat and trailer were confiscated.
