Free concert by Carnegie-bound

Advertiser Staff

The student orchestra at Kamehameha Schools' Maui campus will present a concert Sunday in preparation for an appearance next month at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The free concert will begin at 4 p.m. in the Baldwin High School auditorium in Wailuku.

More than 40 Kamehameha students in grades 8 to 12 are in the orchestra, which consists of violin, viola, cello and bass. The Maui musicians will join orchestras from Seattle and Texas in the June 2 concert at Carnegie Hall. In addition to sharing a Hawai'i medley and hula, the group plans to play classical tunes from such composers as Mozart, Bach and Tchaikovsky.
