Frazier's expenses sought

The Legislature is asking University of Hawai'i athletic director Herman Frazier to provide it with details about his travel and expenditures as part of its informational briefing Monday, the chairman of the state House Higher Education Committee said.

Rep. Jerry Chang said, "there's a lot of talk about his high pay and travel expenses and the trips that he is taking."

Chang said "he should be accountable."

Frazier's salary is $250,000.

Frazier said, "I look forward to being there on Monday and giving out our message."

The meeting, a joint effort of Chang's committee and the Senate Education Committee, is being billed as a briefing on "the state of the University of Hawai'i (Manoa) athletics department."

But Chang said a number of people have raised questions about Frazier's operation of the department. Chang and others said most of the correspondence reaching them has so far been "negative." Much of it comes in the wake of recent controversies about facilities and scheduling.

Two weeks ago UH quarterback Colt Brennan blasted the state of some facilities at UH.

Frazier said, "we put together all of our achievements for 2006-'07 and, I think, once we share that with the powers that be, I think they will feel the same way as we do about what's been accomplished."
