UH tops UCLA, faces Loyola Marymount for region title

Brandi Peiler hit a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning to lead second-seeded Hawai'i to a 3-1 victory today over top-seeded UCLA and into the NCAA Softball Los Angeles Regional championship game.The Rainbow Wahine (48-11) will play at 11:30 a.m. Hawai'i time tomorrow against Loyola Marymount, which eliminated UCLA, 4-2, tonight. UH needs to win one game to capture the regional, while LMU (47-17) needs two wins in the double-elimination tournament.
Kate Robinson (16-1) pitched a complete game, striking out four and walking two.
In the top of the eighth, Clare Warwick singled then went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kaulana Gould. After Tyleen Tausaga was intentionally walked, Robinson singled to fill the bases. Peiler then doubled down the left-field line scoring Warwick and Tausaga. Valana Manuma reached on a fielder's choice when Robinson was tagged out trying to score. Alana Power flied out to end the inning.
Peiler gave UH a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly, scoring Gould in the sixth inning.
UCLA tied it on an RBI single by Jodie Legaspi.
