Meeting goal: Keep Hawai'i green, and in the green

WAILUKU The 2007 Hawaii State Association of Counties Annual Conference, to be held June 7 and 8 at the Maui Prince Hotel in Makena, will address new ways to make municipal government more ecologically sound and more financially proficient, Maui County Council Chair G. Riki Hokama and Maui County Councilmember and HSAC Treasurer Joseph Pontanilla announced.Hokama said the conference theme is "Counties Care for Hawaii". Speakers will include Colleen Landkamer of Minnesota and Javier Gonzales of New Mexico, current and former presidents of the National Association of Counties, respectively.
Conference sessions will address a wide range of topics relevant to Hawai'i's counties, including green government, financing capital improvement projects, providing employee benefits and purchasing practices.

"The HSAC conference will provide a great opportunity to hear from national and local experts on the latest innovations in municipal government," Pontanilla said. "This event will provide tangible benefits to Hawai'i residents in the years to come by helping county governments become more environmentally and fiscally efficient."
The conference will include educational seminars on June 7 and 8 and a concert by musician Willie K of Maui on June 7.
