A record $1.08 million was raised in the 29th annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk sponsored by the Hawai'i Hotel & Lodging Association today.

A total of 10,067 walkers from O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i, Moloka'i, Lana'i and Hawai'i participated. The old record was $1.05 million.

Walkers began their six-mile trek at Ala Moana Beach Park's McCoy Pavilion at 7 a.m., circulated through Waikiki, and returned to Ala Moana Beach Park.

They were treated to entertainment and food during and after the walk.

Partnering with The Honolulu Advertiser and Hawaiian 105 KINE, the Charity Walk is the largest single-day fundraiser in the state. Since 1978, it has raised more than $19 million.
