ME trying to identify traffic victim

By Rod Ohira

The Honolulu medical examiner's office is not releasing the name of a man who died Friday from injuries suffered in a car crash in Kalaeloa until his identity is confirmed, likely from fingerprints.

The man, 35, was a passenger in a speeding 2001 Ford Ranger driven by a 25-year-old man that crashed Friday at 10:20 a.m. on Kalaeloa Boulevard near Lauwiliwili Street.

Police vehicular homicide investigator Sgt. Alan Vegas said the truck was northbound, speeding and passing vehicles when it struck a raised curb, went out of control and overturned.

The driver was not injured.

The passenger died at The Queen's Medical Center at 4:55 p.m. Friday.

The death is Oahu's 33rd traffic fatality of 2007.
