March on Tuesday will honor slain Kaua'i woman

Advertiser Staff

The Hawaii State Coalition Against Domestic Violence will hold a silent march Tuesday, May 22, in honor of Marie "Annette" Mundon. The march will start at 5:30 p.m. in front of the State Capitol along Beretania Street.

Organizers said the march honors Mundon and gives testimony regarding the community's commitment to educate the public about violence against women in hopes of eliminating the problem

Parking is available at the Alapai Street Parking Garage and underneath the Hawaii State Capitol Building

Mundon died on May 10 after suffering two heart attacks brought on by blunt force trauma to the chest, by allegedly being kicked by Shane Duncan, the father of Annette's grandchildren.

Duncan, 27, of Kapa'a is being held at the Kauai Community Correctional Center on manslaughter, assault, unlawful imprisonment and other charges. Duncan is also accused of hitting and later imprisoning his girlfriend, Jaime Mundon, after kicking her mother in the chest and slamming her father, James Mundon's head against the door of his truck. The alleged events took place in the presence of the children of Jaime and Shane: a 7 month-old infant and another child.

Mundon was the second woman this year in Hawaii to die due to domestic violence. Friends said she was much loved and was a devoted mother who put her family first.
