12 selected to high school sports Hall of Honor

Soccer, basketball and volleyball standout Ashley Medcalf will become tiny Christian Academy's first Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Hall of Honor inductee and four-sport athlete Reece Alnas will be the first from Kamehameha-Hawai'i to join the distinguished group.

Medcalf and Alnas (football, basketball, baseball, track and field) were two of 12 seniors chosen for induction after the Hall's 13-member committee completed its two-day selection process yesterday.

The other honorees are:

i Jazzmin Awa-Williams, Konawaena (basketball, softball);

i Brandon Hardin, Kamehameha (football, track);

i Keisha Kanekoa, Honoka'a (basketball, softball, cross country);

i June Ann Lusk, Baldwin (softball, cross country, track and field);

i Spencer McLachlin, Punahou (volleyball, basketball);

i Hoku Nohara, Kamehameha (softball, wrestling, judo);

i Miah Ostrowski, Punahou (football, basketball);

i Keone Reyes, Kaimuki (football, basketball);

i Richard Torres, Kahuku (football, wrestling, judo);

i Scott Smith, Saint Louis (football, basketball).

Each inductee will receive a $2,000 college scholarship and will be honored at the Hawai'i High School Athletic Foundation Awards Recognition Dinner at 5:30 p.m. June 3 at the Sheraton Waikiki. The keynote speaker will be University of North Carolina men's basketball coach Roy Williams, and proceeds from the dinner will go toward the HHSAA Foundation, which helps supplement the costs of 29 state championship events.

The Honolulu Advertiser will be a title sponsor of the Hall for the first time. It was formerly known as the Nissan Hawai'i High School Hall of Honor.

This year's class will bring the total number of inductees to 300, representing 52 high schools since 1983.
