Advertiser Staff

Andy Potts of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Julie Swail of Irvine, Colo., captured the USA Triathlon Elite National Championship by capturing the overall titles at today's Honolulu Triathlon.

Potts, 31, finished the 5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run in 1 hour, 42 minutes, 27 seconds. Swail, 35, won the women's race in 1:52:33.

It was the first triathlon national titles for both. They earned spots at this summer's Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro and the ITU World Championships in Hamburg, Germany.

Three under-23 athletes — Ethan Brown, John Dahlsz and Jennifer Spieldenner — also earned spots in the ITU U23 World Championships.
