Hurricane preparedness expo set for Saturday

The American Red Cross Hawaii State Chapter will hold a hurricane preparedness exposition from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Hawaii Convention Center.

The free event will feature free discussions on various topics including how to keep pets safe, how to hurricane-proof your home and insurance needs.

A mock evacuation center will be set up to show the public what an evacuation shelter and long-term shelter operations look like. Those who attend will learn how to prepare in the event they will have to use such facilities.

The event is sponsored by the Hawaiian Red Cross in partnership with the Hawaii state Insurance Commission, Civil Defense, state Department of Land and Natural Resources Flood Control Program, Hawaiian Humane Society, National Weather Service, FEMA, Pacific Disaster Center and the Hawaii Convention Center.
