Maui park beautification effort to end with cookout

HOOKIPA – Students and volunteers will plant Hawaiian plants at Hookipa Beach Park and clean the area, finishing with a cookout from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 2, The Maui News reported.

The Hookipa Native Planting and Beautification Projects are sponsored by the Surfrider Foundation, Maui Chapter, in partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation; state Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife; Kaulunani Program; state Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, Central Maui Maintenance; Ho'olawa Farms; Haiku Farms; Chris Curtis Landscapes; Branch Out Tree Service; Kelcon Tree Care; Maui Eko Compost; and the Haiku Boys & Girls Club.

Corporate sponsors are Barefoot Wine, Sobe Beverages and Goodfellow Brothers.

This event is the first in a coast-to-coast series of Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Projects between June and September to encourage residents to help keep their local beaches "barefoot friendly." For more information, visit www.barefootwine.com/beachrescue.
