Legislature briefing on UH athletics set for today

Advertiser Staff

The state Legislature will hold an informational briefing today on what it terms, "the state of the University of Hawai'i (Manoa) athletics department" at the state Capitol.

The 2 p.m. meeting before the combined House Higher Education committee and Senate Education committee is scheduled for room 309. It will be open to the public but will not allow public testimony, officials said.

The briefing is scheduled to be shown live on 'Olelo's VIEWS on Oceanic Cable, Channel 54.

UH-Manoa administrators, including athletics director Herman Frazier, and coaches are expected to attend.

The meeting comes in the wake of recent controversies over facilities and scheduling. Two weeks ago UH quarterback Colt Brennan blasted the state of some facilities and leveled other complaints about operations of the school, comments that prompted national headlines.

In addition, UH has yet to finalize its 2007 football schedule, which is due to open in less than four months.
