A 16-year-old boy was shot tonight outside the 'Aiea Public Library, the third shooting on O'ahu since last Monday.

The boy was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, according to Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

The shooting occurred at about 10:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the library at 99-143 Moanalua Road, said HPD night commander Maj. Thomas Nitta.

Nitta said the boy and another person were drinking in the parking lot when he was shot in an apparent drive-by.

Police were seeking a black car with tinted windows last seen headed east on Moanalua Road from the area of the library parking lot.

According to police communications, the shooter was seated in the back seat of the car. The weapon used is believed to be a large-caliber handgun.

O'ahu's shootings began May 14 in Kane'ohe when Benjamin Grejada, 27, of North Hollywood, Ca., was gunned down. A second death came Sunday as Dillon Ching, 30, died after being shot late Saturday during a brawl at Sunset Beach.

There's no indication that the 'Aiea shooting is connected to the Sunset Beach incident, Nitta said.
