Driver injured in Kaua'i crash remains at O'ahu hospital

Advertiser Staff

A Hanapepe woman remains in serious condition at Straub Medical Center following a one-car crash near Kalaheo early Saturday morning, according to a Kaua'i Police Department news released issued today.

Erica Eggo, 37, was driving west-bound on Kaumuali'i Highway near mile marker 13 at about 1:30 a.m. when she apparently crossed the center line and hit the embankment on the makai side of the highway. The Toyota sedan Eggo was driving flipped over and she was ejected from the vehicle.

Eggo sustained serious injuries and was transported to Wilcox Hospital for treatment. She was later airlifted to Straub Medical Center.

According to police, alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the crash.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Eggo was not wearing a seat belt.
