Fewer cyclones in NOAA's Hawai'i forecast for this year

Gov. Linda Lingle signed into law today an act that would provide partial reimbursements for wind-resistive measures, including residential safe rooms. At a ceremony today she also signed a proclamation declaring this week "Hurricane Preparedness Week."

The Central Pacific is forecast to have two to three tropical cyclones this year, a number slightly below average, said National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Central Pacific Hurricane center in Honolulu.

Hawai'i normally receives four to five tropical cyclones a year, two of which reach hurricane intensity.

Last year, Hawai'i had five tropical cyclones.
