Grants

Atlas Insurance Agency and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company will award the Honolulu Fire Department a $30,000 grant. The money will be used to purchase two new sets of extrication equipment, otherwise known as the "jaws of life."

The heavy rescue tools enable firefighters to safely and more quickly extricate victims trapped after car accidents. Fire Chief Kenneth Silva said the new tools will be placed on fire engines that cover areas needing this rescue capability.

"Budget restraints often prevent fire departments from purchasing all the equipment they need, which is why we're so happy to receive this grant from Atlas Insurance and Fireman's Fund," said Silva.
