Next crater celebration already being planned

Advertiser Staff

While dates are yet to be set, plans are already under way for the 2008 Diamond Head Crater Celebration, according to producer Ron Gibson.

Saturday's celebration attracted 5,000 fans inside Diamond Head Crater, a skosh less than the 7,500 at last year's event. But fans heard four acts — Yvonne Elliman, Mick Fleetwood's Island Rumours Band, the Gregg Rolie Band and Earth, Wind & Fire — play eight hours of continuous music from two stages and the weather cooperated "to express the true vision and set-up of the event," Gibson said in a statement.

A new feature this year, a live auction conducted by Joe Teipel, raised more than $11,000 from sales of autographed instruments and a stash of Fleetwood wines. The proceeds will support Friends of the Diamond Head Crater Celebration's workshops for aspiring musicians statewide.
