Sorenstam to return from back injury next week

Annika Sorenstam will return to the LPGA Tour next week at a tournament she hosts in South Carolina after a two-month break in which she lost her No. 1 world ranking to Lorena Ochoa.

Also returning from a long break to play in the same event is Honolulu's Michelle Wie, who's been sidelined with a wrist injury since the Sony Open in January.

Sorenstam, 36, has been recovering from a herniated disc in her back and hasn't played competitive golf since the Kraft Nabisco Championship on April 1.

Her rehabilitation has "progressed well" and she will play in the inaugural $2.6 million Ginn Tribute Hosted by Annika, agent Mark Steinberg said in a statement.

The event is scheduled for May 31-June 3 at RiverTowne Country Club in Charleston. Ochoa, Wie, Morgan Pressel, Paula Creamer, Juli Inkster and Brittany Lincicome are among the other top players in the field.

Sorenstam, the winner of 10 major titles and 84 events around the world, was replaced by Ochoa atop the women's rankings last month. Sorenstam had been No. 1 since the ratings were created in February 2006.
