Local egg production falls 21% in March from year ago

Hawai'i egg production fell to 6.9 million eggs in March, a 21 percent drop from the same month a year earlier, according to the Hawaii office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The average number of laying hens in March was estimated at 388,000, down 17 percent from the same month a year earlier.

The average lay rate in March was 1,778 per 100 laying hens, down 5 percent from the same month a year earlier.
