Macrobiotic cooking class offered on Saturday

Advertiser Staff

Kathy Maddux, who studied and worked at macrobiotic mecca The Kushi Institute, will lead a workshop on cooking quick and easy summer macrobiotic dishes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Green House in Pauoa. Participants will also get to eat the results, and discuss how they support health.

Lentils and brown rice sound tasteless to you? Maddux is known for cooking food as flavorful as any cuisine, and her desserts make people wonder how she made them without sugar.

The macrobiotic approach to wellness focuses on bringing balance to a person's physical and emotional condition by using foods that are balanced energetically and nutritionally. Participants will also get to take home a booklet of recipes.

The workshop menu: lentil soup, brown rice salad, marinated cucumber sticks and wakame salad, quinoa with corn and pesto chickpea dip, melon surprise.

Fee: $25. Class size is limited to 10 people. To register, e-mail thehawaiigreenhouse@hawaiiantel.net or call Betty Gearen at 524-8427. The Green House: 224 Pakohana St.
