Police arrest man released by feds

Advertiser Staff

Police today arrested a 22-year-old man at the Prince Kuhio federal building on two parole revocation warrants.

Gavin A. H. "Hano" Kalai had been serving a sentence at the federal detention center.

He was taken into custody at 10:20 a.m. and sent to the intake service center at O'ahu Community Correctional Center. Kalai is being held without bail pending an appearance today at Circuit Court.

Kalai was one of four men indicted by an O'ahu grand jury in October 2003 for first- and second-degree assault.

Kalai, Robert and Manuel Kupahu Jr., and Guy K. Meyers were accused of beating a man, 51, at Waimanalo Beach Park in March 2003.

The victim suffered eight broken ribs and cuts over both eyes.

The 6-foot, 270-pound Kalai has three prior convictions according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Center records.
