Foundation to honor principals tomorrow

Island Insurance Foundation will present one lucky Hawai'i principal with $25,000 tomorrow night.

Eleven principals from around the state were nominated for the award. They will gather at the Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation banquet tomorrow at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom.

The winner will receive a $10,000 personal award, and $15,000 to be used for a school project.

This is the fourth year the award has been given out.

It honors the late Masayuki Tokioka, founder of Island Insurance Company, Ltd.

The nominated principals are:

i Duwayne Abe, Salt Lake Elementary

i Nathan Aiwohi, Hanalei Elementary

i Myron Brumaghim, Nanaikapono Elementary

i Stanley Kayatani, Kalihi-Kai Elementary

i Fern Markgraf, Kahului Elementary

i Lloyd Matsunami, Kaumana Elementary

i Steve Nakasato, Mililani Ike Elementary

i Mitchell Otani, Kane'ohe Elementary

i Norman Pang, Holomua Elementary

i Charlotte Unni, Ala Wai Elementary

i Claire Yoshida, Konawaena Elementary

The top semifinalists will get a $2,000 cash award. Each of the nominees has already received $500.
