5 UH baseball players on WAC second team

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i baseball team, which finished fifth in the Western Athletic Conference, was shut out today from the 15-player first team.

Instead, five players — First baseman Kris Sanchez, second baseman Jonathan Hee, third baseman Justin Frash, outfielder Brandon Haislet and designated hitter Vinnie Catricala — were named to the 18-player second team.

First-place Fresno State landed six first-team players while second-place Nevada and third-place Louisiana Tech had four players each. Sacramento State, which finished sixth, had one first-team player.

Louisiana Tech junior outfielder Brian Rike was named WAC Player of the Year and LaTech's Wade Simoneaux, the Coach of the Year.

Nevada senior Ryan Rodriguez was named Pitcher of the Year and Nevada first baseman Shaun Kort, the Freshman of the Year.
