Police today were investigating a Nu'uanu woman for allegedly stealing the identity of an elderly man for the purpose of taking his mail.

The woman, 43, was arrested yesterday at the Kahala post office after authorities investigated a complaint from a 73-year-old about missing mail.

The woman allegedly was in possession of a photo ID of herself in the man's name when arrested at the post office at 3:15 p.m.

Police said the woman had ordered the victim's mail to be put on "vacation hold."

The woman was booked for felony offenses of second-degree forgery and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, and petty misdemeanor fourth-degree theft.

Charges are pending.
