Tennessee all-star softball outfielder out for UH series

Associated Press

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee outfielder India Chiles, the Southeastern Conference player of the year, has a torn knee ligament.

Team officials said today she will miss the Super Regional round in the NCAA softball tournament this week. Tennessee hosts Hawai'i in a best-of-3 series starting Friday.

Chiles, a senior, injured her right knee during last weekend's Regional tournament.

"She is going to rehab aggressively and her status will be determined on a day-to-day basis based on the progress of her rehab," team officials said.

The winners of the Super Regionals advance to the College World Series.

The Lady Vols, who were ranked No. 1 most of the regular season, are trying to reach the CWS for the third straight year.

Chiles, Tennessee's leadoff hitter, batted .544 against SEC opponents and stole 43 bases.
