NIU VALLEY
State selling off vacant sites

Advertiser Staff

Two properties on Kalaniana'ole Highway purchased by the state that have sat vacant for more than a decade will go up for auction by the end of the year, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The two properties, at 5839 and 5841 Kalaniana'ole Highway, now are being cleaned up and will be sold at the appraised value, said Transportation Department spokesman Scott Ishikawa.

Three other properties — considered remnant because of their small size — are in the process of being sold. The five homes were purchased by the DOT for about $2 million in 1990 to make way for the widening from four lanes to six.
