Photography project will help grieving youth

Advertiser Staff

ProjectFocus Hawai'i will partner with a nonprofit serving grieving youth to offer photography internships to children.

Kids hurt too, a nonprofit that helps youth who have lost a parent, who are in the foster care system or whose parents have divorced, will start recruiting its participants for the internships immediately.

The 12-week internships offered by ProjectFocus Hawai'i give kids the chance to work hands-on with photographers.

ProjectFocus was founded by Hawai'i professional photographers Laurie Breeden Callies and Lisa Uesigi. Its mission is to enrich the lives of children by teaching them photography.

During the internships, children take photos of someone who means a lot to them and their portraits are also shot.

At the end of the project, a monthlong exhibit will showcase their work along with their portraits. The youth also get the photos on a DVD and in a hardcover coffee-table book.
