KANE'OHE
Aikido club honors Aiona

Advertiser Staff

The Kane'ohe Aikido Club has awarded an honorary black belt to Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona in recognition of his service to families in Hawai'i.

Aiona received the honor at the Kane'ohe Senior Recreation Center during the club's award ceremony for students advancing in rank, according to the group.

The club this year celebrated its 42nd anniversary, making it one of the oldest martial arts clubs in the state.

Most of its members are 10 years old or younger.

In addition to physical fitness training, the club emphasizes mental training, controlled relaxation, and development of ki, or spirit.
