HPD investigating online sale of stolen car parts

Honolulu police put out an alert this morning cautioning the public about the recent trend involving of young adults reportedly stealing cars, stripping them and selling the parts online.

Hondas, Mitsubishis and other street racing vehicles appear to be targeted.

Two males from the Kalihi area have been arrested in connection with the theft trend, and additional suspects are under investigation.

CrimeStoppers advises consumers to buy auto parts only from reputable dealers.

Anyone who purchases vehicle parts on the Internet is cautioned that items may be stolen.

If police identify parts as stolen, the person in possession may be arrested for detaining stolen property and their vehicle may be seized for forfeiture.
