Hilton Hotels Corp. is expanding a development deal with Starbucks Corp. to Hawai'i with plans to open a Starbucks store at the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Kalia Tower in June.

The planned store will be the first Starbucks at any Hawai'i Hilton property.

The expansion stems from a 2005 licensing agreement between the two companies that allows Hilton to build, own and operate Starbucks stores at its resorts. The store in the Hilton Hawaiian Village is tentatively scheduled to open June 25.

To date, there are only 17 Starbucks stores among Hilton's roughly 2,400 hotels in the United States.

"We're looking forward to the opening, as Starbucks adds a different option for our guests and really complements our existing food and beverage operations," said Gwen LeBlanc, area leasing director for Hilton Hawai'i.

The Starbucks store at Hilton's Waikiki resort will be in space previously occupied by Niumalu Cafe.

Hilton officials said there are no immediate plans to open more Starbucks stores at Hilton hotels in Hawai'i, though the agreement allows for further expansion.

Starbucks first entered the Hawai'i market in 1997 under a similar licensing agreement with a local company affiliated with the MacNaughton Group development firm that opened 54 stores before Seattle-based Starbucks bought back its stores last year.

Since then, Starbucks has continued expanding, and opened its 67th Hawai'i store last month in Wai'anae.
