Advertiser Staff

Women Helping Women, a nonprofit agency that helps domestic violence victims, was named recipient of this year's Bank of Hawaii Mike Lyons Maui Community Award.

The award of $10,000 is presented in memory of Michael H. Lyons II, a retired Bank of Hawaii executive and community leader on Maui who died in 2004.

The award will pay for staff training and support Women Helping Women's BRIDGES Program, which focuses on employment and ways to break the cycle of domestic violence.

The agency serves more than 500 women and children annually.
