Kimberly Kim leads AJGA's Thunderbird golf tourney

Hawai'i's Kimberly Kim shot a 5-under-par 67 today to take a three-stroke lead over Honolulu's Ayaka Kaneko and Florida's Vicky Hurst in the first round of the Thunderbird International Junior at Scottsdale, Ariz.

The American Junior Golf Association meet is being played at the Grayhawk Golf Club.

Kim, who moved from Pahoa to Arizona last year, had five birdies without a bogey.

Stephanie Kono shot a 76 and was tied for 18th in the 36-player girls division.

Arnond Vongvanij of Bradenton, Fla., took a one-shot lead in the boys division after a 66.
