Parking at Hawai'i airports likely to be very scarce

Advertiser Staff

HONOLULU —The state Department of Transportation reminds travelers that parking at Hawai'i's commercial airports is extremely scarce due to the Memorial Day holiday weekend, which kicks off the summer travel season.

While additional parking will be made available at all state airports, air travelers are still advised to be dropped off or picked up, or to use taxis, airport shuttles or other means of transportation if possible.

Due to limited parking and larger crowds, travelers also are encouraged to add 45 minutes to their airport arrival times in addition to the recommended two-hour pre-flight arrival time. Listed below are overflow parking plans for each airport:

Honolulu International Airport (O'ahu)

Valet parking services are available in the Inter-Island Terminal at the second level center median, across from the Aloha Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines check-in lobbies, between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. Valet parking rates are $15 per day versus self-parking rates of $10 per day. When all parking structures are filled, motorists will be directed to the valet parking. Valet vehicle pick-ups will be located at the second level center median near the interisland check-in lobby.

Approximately 300 stalls on the top floor of the interisland parking garage were reopened for public use earlier this month following renovations to the parking deck.

Overflow parking will be available at the former United Cargo Lot on Aolele Street. Airport security will direct traffic to the overflow lots ONLY after all other regular parking are completely filled.

Kahului Airport (Maui)

Additional airport parking will be provided at the A'alele Street overflow lot. Emergency parking will available in Lot S. Signage will be posted to direct traffic to the overflow lots when regular parking lots are filled.

Kona International Airport (Big Island)

Overflow parking will be available in the Pao'o Street overflow lot, located next to the employee parking lot. When necessary, the U'u Street remote parking lot will also be opened. Signage will be posted to direct traffic to the overflow lots when regular parking lots are filled.

Hilo International Airport (Big Island)

Additional parking will be available in the overflow grass lots located on both ends of the airport terminal parking lot. Signage will be posted to direct traffic to the overflow lots when regular parking lots are filled.

Lihu'e Airport (Kaua'i)

Additional parking will be provided in the overflow lots located at both ends of the airport terminal. Signage will be posted to direct traffic to the overflow lots when regular parking lots are filled.
