On social justice to 'repair' world

Temple Emanu-El presents a talk by former journalist Bernard Krisher, "Repairing the World through Social Justice and Acts of Loving Kindness," at 6 p.m. Thursday.

SHRINE WILL BLESS PETS, GIVE TREATS

Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha — Hawaii Dazaifu Tenmangu, a Shinto shrine at 1239 Olomea St., will hold its Pet Blessing Festival at 10 a.m. June 3.

Leashed or caged pets will be blessed during the four-hour festival; after the blessing, pets can beat the summer heat with special "pet shave ice." Information: Irene Takizawa, 841-4755 or kotohira@hawaiiantel.net.

FREE MUSIC EVENT FOR YOUTH JUNE 16

"Hosanna '07," a youth concert with cultural music workshops, will be held all day June 16 at Kawaiaha'o Church.

The free event begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 9 p.m., and includes music by the Kahikolu Church Youth Choir. There will be music and demonstrations for youths from grades 4 to 12. (Ministers, youth leaders, and parents/guardians are welcome.)

LIGHTING CANDLES IN THEIR MEMORY

Waiokeola Congregational Church will hold its third annual memorial service at 5 p.m. tomorrow. Names of church members, friends and veterans who have passed away in the past year will be read and candles lit in their memory.

HOKULE'A TALES FROM TWO OF CREW

"Ku Holo Mau," a discussion by Hokule'a crew members Billy Richards and Marjorie Mau, will be at 6 p.m. tomorrow in the Von Holt Room at St. Andrew's Cathedral.They will show pictures of the latest voyage, and answer questions. Light supper served. Information: 524-2822.

BUDDHISM TALK AND WORKSHOP

Kevin Griffin, who wrote "One Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the Twelve Steps," will give a talk at 6 p.m. June 15 at Unity Church of Hawai'i. Fee: $15, 735-4436.
