Former Big Island resident Kimberly Kim bogeyed two of the first three holes but rallied to birdie two of the last three to shoot an even-par 72 today to maintain the lead after two rounds of the Thunderbird International Junior at Scottsdale, Ariz.

The tournament that annually attracts the top junior golfers in the world is for players 14- to 18-years old. The event ends tomorrow (Monday).

Kim's two-round total of 5-under 139 on the 6,271-yard Grayhawk Golf Club Raptor Course is four shots better than second-place Joanne Lee of San Carlos, Calif. Lee tied for the day's low rounds of 1-under-par 71.

Starting on the back, Kim bogeyed the par-4 Nos. 10 and 12 and made the turn at 2-over 38. But she birdied Nos. 4, 7 and 8 while bogeying No. 6 to close at 2-under for the back nine.
