California woman critical after Kaua'i car wreck

Advertiser Staff

A California woman who was badly hurt in a Wailua car crash Friday night on Kaua'i remains in critical condition today at The Queen's Medical Center.

Kiyoko Espiritu, age 70, was airlifted to Queen's after being treated at Wilcox Hospital.

Kiyoko was with her husband, Antonio Espiritu, 75, when he attempted to make a left turn onto South Papaloa Road from Kuhio Highway in a Toyota sedan at around 8 p.m. and was struck by a northbound Toyota pickup driven by Durgh Kane Jr., age 28, of Lihu'e.

All three were taken to Wilcox Hospital. Antonio Espiritu and Kane were treated and released.

Police said speed appeared to have been a factor.
