Battle for Beckham brewing

David Beckham is heading for a showdown with Los Angeles Galaxy over a possible loan deal that could see him play again in England's Premiership, the Daily Mail reported.

Newcastle, Tottenham, Everton and Blackburn have considered taking him on a three-month loan after the U.S. season ends, the Mail said. Such a move would help him make a case for inclusion in England's squad for next year's European Championship.

The former Manchester United player, now with Real Madrid, is due to join Galaxy after this season. He was recalled to the England squad two days ago for a friendly match with Brazil and a Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia next month, having been dropped by manager Steve McClaren after last year's World Cup.

Although the U.S. season ends in November and re-starts in April, Galaxy wants Beckham in pre-season training in February, the Mail said.

"He won't be going on loan anywhere," the newspaper quoted Galaxy coach Frank Yallop as saying. "He doesn't need to go back and go on loan anywhere."

The Daily Mirror reported that Galaxy doesn't want Beckham to be picked for England friendly matches either after he joins the California club.
