Visitor arrivals, spending dip in April from year ago

The number of tourists visiting Hawai'i dipped 1 percent in April from the same month a year earlier, while the amount they spent fell 1.9 percent during the same period.Through the first four months of year, visitor spending rose 1.2 percent to $3.9 billion compared with the same period last year, according to statistics from the state Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism. Average daily spending from January through April rose 3.3 percent to $177 per person from a year ago.
While year-to-date spending was up, total visitor days decreased 2 percent compared to the same period in 2006 while total arrivals fell 1.1 percent.
