Advertiser Staff

Police arrested a 25-year-old woman early this morning as a suspect in the death of a 55-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at her Halawa Heights home about 12:15 a.m. today.

Arrested at 2:45 a.m. today on suspicion of second-degree murder was Carol K. Weidman, who listed her home address as 99-462 Paihi St., which is where the older woman's body was found.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said a city paramedic team was called to the home on Paihi Street at 11:23 p.m. last night and pronounced the woman dead at 12:10 a.m. today.

The city Medical Examiner's Office determined following an autopsy that the older woman died of strangulation and stab wounds to her neck and chest. The office said it had not established the dead woman's identity, but police told the media that the victim appears to be the suspect's mother.
