HAWAI'I KAI
Night closing of park supported

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i Kai Neighborhood Board voted 11-4 Tuesday night in favor of closing Koko Head District Park from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. after residents complained of graffiti, drinking and racing problems at the 59-acre park.

The park currently is open 24 hours a day. The resolution will go to the city's Department of Parks and Recreation, which will refer the issue to the city's Board of Parks and Recreation. Once a recommendation is made, the matter goes back to the parks department, which will make the final decision.

The decision is based on park location, type, hours requested to be closed, usage, physical layout and the community's reasons for closure.
