Hawaii stock index decline mirrors Dow's drop

Advertiser Staff

The Bloomberg-Honolulu Advertiser Hawai'i Index duplicated a decline in the broader Dow Jones Industrials today, falling 2.6 percent.

The 11-member stock index fell 2.57 points to 96.46 as eight stocks declined, two gained and one was unchanged. On a percentage basis the decline mirrored the fall in the Dow, which was down 362.14 points as investors worried about a slowing economy and dim prospects for continued Federal Reserve interest rate cuts.

The local decliners were led by bank stocks, with Bank of Hawaii falling $1.82 to $51.34. Central Pacific Financial was off $1.40 to $21.04.

Also showing a notable drop was Maui Land & Pineapple, which was off $1.23 to $28.2.
